  CM/ECF Goes Live
Conversion of the database ended at 1:30 a.m. Saturday April 30th. Early Saturday afternoon, court staff came in to docket and otherwise test the database. Dozens of docket entries have been made, many documents have been filed, and many Notices of Electronic Filing have been sent.

  Intensive Transition Begins
Docketing stopped at noon today, and scanning of papers to match with docket entries ended at 5:00 p.m. The extraction of information from the ICMS (old case management) database began at noon, and will continue until tomorrow. Then the extracted data will be imported into CM/ECF. (This conversion process has already been tested several times by court staff.)
Starting Monday morning, May 2nd, docketing will resume, but in the new CM/ECF system. Under CM/ECF, scanning must precede docketing -- whereas docketing has preceded scanning in ICMS. As court staff learns the new system, and begins to scan all incoming materials, docketing priorities will be:
1) Criminal docketing
2) Orders, judgments
3) Notices
4) Motions
5) All other docketing
Images will be imported into CM/ECF on a rolling basis. All images should be transferred within a week.

"Go Live" in Three Working Days
Final preparations continue for the transition to an electronic record. Another test conversion was completed last week, and court staff are finishing additional training. Specific times are now set for transition of court computer systems from ICMS (the current docket management system) to the CM/ECF System. Icons related to the old system will be removed from computer desktops late Friday and the high speed scanners in the intake area will be sequentially rolled over to route to CM/ECF. All internal court training material is being posted to the court's intranet to be accessible to all court staff.
Final notices of the transition are being sent to all mail, fax and email notice recipients. Starting Monday My 2nd, notice from the court will be a Notice of Electronic Filing (NEF) linking to court documents rather than an e-mail enclosing court document. NEFs will be sent for minute entries, which have not previously been sent to e-notice recipients. NEFs will also be sent for documents filed by counsel in paper form, after the documents are docketed by the court. A NEF sent after a paper filing is not Rule 5 service. NEFs generated by an attorney's electronic filing are Rule 5 service. For more information, see What is a NEF?
Attorney filing is expected to begin in Criminal cases in the early summer. Civil case filing will follow thereafter.

  Preparations Continue
Preparations continue as CM/ECF "will go live" May 2nd, less than 20 days from today. Another test conversion complete April 10th was successful.
A new feature appeared in the clerk's office recently. There are 31 numbered boxes, each corresponding to a day of the month.

Almost all documents filed on or after May 2nd will be placed in boxes, numbered by days of the month, after they are scanned and the scanned image is docketed. The scanned documents will be retained in a chronological file corresponding to the date of filing.
As of May 2nd, the official court record will be the electronic document file. Paper files will no longer be the official file. Some paper documents (described in the Administrative Procedures re: Electronic Filing) will be retained permanently, but the great majority of paper documents presented for filing will be archived in daily boxes. It is anticipated that at a future time, it may be possible to discard the chronolgical boxes of paper submissions.
